Milan, April 4, 2017 - Pavia e Ansaldo, with a team led by Tokyo local partner Adriano Villa and composed by Naoko Konishi and Martina Sayaka Angeletti, assisted Azimut Benetti in the tender procedure of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for the construction of a 35 meter long conference boat.
The boat will be used to house presentations and official conferences of the Tokyo Municipality, with particular emphasis on hosting foreign heads of countries and governments at the 2020 Olympics. The success of the Italian shipyard, worldwide leader in the construction of mega yachts, is particularly important also because it is the first time ever that a foreign company is awarded a construction contract in a tender procedure by the City of Tokyo.
The tender procedure was closely followed by Pavia e Ansaldo’s Tokyo Office and Japan Desk in Milan with the cooperation of the Japanese firm Mori Hamada Matsumoto with attorneys Daiki Ishikawa and Akiko Sueoka.
“The principal difficulty in the transaction” according to Adriano Villa “was to link and create a dialogue between the industrial culture and the operating methods of a foreign company with those of a Japanese public entity, characterized by a strong local imprint in a tender procedure aiming at Japanese competitors. An double effort to adapt was necessary, also given the absence of any precedents, as to which the support of the Economic Affairs office of the Italian Embassy in Tokyo, headed by its first counselor, Dr. Pierluigi Trombetta, was particularly important.”
