The Observatory of criminal lawyers of multi-practice firms is born

Milan, 5 July, 2021The Law firms BonelliErede, Dentons, DLA Piper, LCA, Orrick, Pavia e Ansaldo and RP Legal & Tax have created the Observatory of Criminal Lawyers of Multi-practice Firms in Italy.

The Observatory was established last 7 June after a year of stimulating discussion and planning among the founding partners: Francesco Sbisà from BonelliErede; Matteo Vizzardi from Dentons; Antonio Carino and Raffaella Quintana from DLA Piper; Matteo Uslenghi from LCA; Jean Paule Castagno from Orrick; Paola De Pascalis from Pavia e Ansaldo; Piero Magri and Alessandro Racano from RP Legal & Tax.

Following the now consolidated trend evidencing the increasing number of criminal lawyers in multidisciplinary law firms and the significant evolution of their professional role in the last decade, the Observatory intends to represent an area of discussion and in-depth study of all topics regarding the departments of criminal law of multi-practice law firms, with the purpose of widening their role and valorisation on the legal market.

The figure of the criminal lawyer interacting daily with professionals of different areas of the law is boosting rapidly, and the criminal departments of multi-practice firms are increasingly being recognized on the market as referents with undisputed competence and efficacy. This mainly thanks to the ability in satisfying the demand for criminal assistance in the judicial context, even with specific reference to the proceedings requesting transversal competences, and to furnish criminal assistance in the advisory and compliance areas both at a national and cross-border level.

Among the first activities which the Observatory will promote, there will be discussions on the role of the profession and technical round-tables on the development of relevant laws and case-law; moreover, forms of cooperation with other Associations, Entities and Institutions will be defined.

For the first two years, the founding partners appointed members of the Presidential Committee Piero Magri, Jean-Paule Castagno and Paola De Pascalis included in the Executive Committee composed also by Antonio Carino, Francesco Sbisà, Matteo Vizzardi and Giovanni Morgese.

The participation in the Observatory is open to all coordinators of criminal departments and criminal partners or associates of law firms made up of at least 5 partners of different practices.
