Mario J. Abate is Partner of Firm and is located principally at the Milano Office, excercising his profession in connection with the US Desk, which he directs since 2016. Mario has gained extensive experience in M&A, PE and VC, start-ups of businesses in Italy and abroad principally in the field of fashion and luxury, Series A and B sports teams and other forms of business transactions, providing legal advice and assistance to US, Italian and foreign clients in international joint ventures and other transactional matters, including the establishment of foreign Trusts. His professional area of practice consists in providing legal assistance and advice to U.S. and foreign corporations with inbound investiments as well as with the management of the operations of their Italian branches and subsidiaries in Italy.
He served as First Diplomatic Counsellor at the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Malta and then to the Principality of Monaco (2016 -2024).
Lecturer for the Masters of Laws Program on Fashion Law, The Luiss University Law School, Rome Italy (2021).
He serves as member of the board of directors of prestigious entities and foundations (the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation, 2017 – todate), the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy (2025), medical research institutions (ABN, Associazione Bambino Nefropatico ETS, which supports the Pediatric Departments of Nephorology, Dialysis and Transplant, Intesive Care and Urology of the De Marchi Pediatric Clinic of the IRCCS Cà Granda Policlinico foundation of Milano (2018 – to date) and advisor of academic institutions (Georgetown University, Board of Advisors, Undergraduate College Admissions AAP (2011 – 2017) Emeritus status thereafter. He is an active member of the Negotiated Acquisitions Committee and Joint Venture Task Force (1995) International Venture Capital and Private Equity and international Business law committees of the Business Law Section of the ABA (1995 to date).
